Helen Graham

Helen Graham

Helen is the only Senior Iyengar Teacher in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. She completed the 3 year senior certificate in February 2006.
Helen is on the IYA(UK) Exec committee and is the chair of the events committee, responsible for organising the annual UK convention.
Helen started yoga when still at school aged 15. Her interest continued while she was a student in London, but it was when she experienced her first Iyengar class in 1984 that yoga became a way of life.
Helen started teaching Iyengar yoga in 1990 and now has weekly classes for beginners and intermediate students on the south side and west end of Glasgow as well as running classes for teachers and training teachers at junior intermediate level.
She also teachers day and weekend workshops most recently in Manchester, Edinburgh, Berlin, Gothenburg and Mumbai.
Helen is also an assessor for the IYA(UK) assessing at all teaching levels from introductory, to senior. From August 2008 she will start training new intoductory teachers in Glasgow.
Helen visits Pune every year, attending the general classes and helping in the medical classes. November 2008 will be her 9th visit.

 

Susan Smith

Susan Smith

Susan has been practicing yoga since she was a student in the 1970’s.  She started by teaching yoga from her own practice to students with special needs.  Then went on to become an introductory Iyengar Yoga teacher in 1985 and completed her Junior Intermediate certificates in 1992.  Her main classes are in Linlithgow but she also does classes with individuals in the Falkirk area.

 

Lyn Farquar

Lyn Farquar
Lyn has taught Iyengar Yoga since 1991 and holds a Junior Intermediate certificate.
Lyn regularly travelled to Sunderland where she trained as a Teacher Trainer under the guidance of Margaret Austin, and now trains students to become Iyengar Yoga teachers in Stirling.
Lyn teaches in Dunblane, Doune and Stirling.

 

Neil Gilles
Neil is a musician and has been practising Iyengar Yoga for 25 years. He qualified as an Iyengar Yoga Teacher in 1995 and gained the Junior Intermediate Teaching Certificate in March 2003.

 

Martin Hall Martin Hall

Martin has been practising Iyengar yoga since 1990, and has been teaching since 1998.  He attended classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune in 1999 and 2001. Martin obtained his Introductory teaching certificate in 1997, and passed the Junior Intermediate Level 2 in March 2007. He is currently working towards Junior Intermediate Level 3.

Martin teaches classes in Stoer, Ullapool and Achiltibuie.

Pamela Martin Pamela Martin
Pamela began practising yoga as a teenager, and discovered Iyengar yoga in 1995. She loves this form of yoga for its precision, and the benefits of strength, flexibility and stamina it brings, while still being enjoyable and calming.

She gained her Introductory Certificate in 2000, and has been teaching Level 1 & 2 classes in the West End of Glasgow since then. Currently studying for Part 2 of the Junior Intermediate Certificate, she has regularly attended workshops with Indian teachers from the Iyengar Institute in Pune.


Frances McKee Frances McKee
Frances has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for fourteen years and teaching for eight years. During this time she has come to realize the potential of yoga in maintaining and improving health and draws on her experience as a natural nutrition therapist to complement this philosophy. Yoga has given her the strength, patience and endurance to raise her three young children. Frances gained her Introductory Level Certificate in 1997 and studied at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune with Prashant and Geeta Iyengar in the same year. She is currently working towards Junior Intermediate Level 1 certification.


Bonar Hutchison

Bonar Hutchison
rBonar has been practicing yoga for over twenty years.
He began Iyengar Yoga twelve years ago and has been teaching yoga for over eight years.
After qualifying as a teacher Bonar spent some time in Pune, India, studying at the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Institute.
In August 2006, Bonar opened the Yogasarvasya Studio in the West End of Glasgow and is currently organizing more workshops in Scotland and Ireland and runs yoga holidays in Andalucia in the South of Spain. At present he is working to complete his Intermediate Junior certification.

Charlott Hill Charlott Hill
Charlott is originally from Stuttgart in Germany and holds a degree in Classical singing from the RSAMD. She also holds a music-teaching certificate. Charlott gained her Introductory Level Certificate in 2004

Valerie Miller

Valerie Miller
Valerie has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for twelve years, gained her Introductory Teaching Certificate in 2005, and currently teaches at Yogasarvasya Studio in the West End of Glasgow. Besides enjoying the many benefits offered by Iyengar Yoga, with a background in Fine Art and a lifelong interest in dance, she also appreciates the beauty of the asanas. Her second visit to study at the Ramamani Memorial Iyengar Yoga Institute will be in October '08.  

 
   
   

 

Liz Sumner

Liz Sumner
Liz enjoyed dance from an early age, including classical ballet and modern stage. She danced and acted in amateur musicals.

Practising yoga, Liz enjoys the benefits of the strength and flexibility - the grace, focus and mental equilibrium.

Liz started practising Iyengar yoga several years ago and gained her Introductory teaching certificate in 2006.

Andy Brennan

Kate Stannard
Kate began practicing Iyengar Yoga in 1999. Although she has experimented with many different types of yoga she fell in love with the precision and detail of the Iyengar way, and now holds her
Introductory level 2 Teaching Certificate. Alongside being a qualified Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, Kate is also a Lecturer in
Contemporary Performance at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. As such she is able to combine her passion of yoga and performance by teaching the students yoga as part of their movement training.

Maurice Finn

Maxine Swingler

Maxine has been practicing Iyengar yoga for 10 years and qualified as a teacher in 2007. Her classes are suitable for complete beginners, all ages and abilities.   She also teaches psychology, and enjoys the outdoors, but always looks forward to her yoga practice at the end of the day.

Emma McGurn

Emma has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for 8 years, has a dance background and taught health related fitness for many years. She has been working as a Physiotherapist for the past 9 years specialising in musculoskeletal problems, often incorporating the principles of Iyengar Yoga into the treatment of myofascial pain.

 

   
 

Margaret Blythe

Margaret has been practicing Iyengar yoga for 11 years. She has her level II teaching certificate with the IYA and recently spent five weeks with the Iyengar family in Pune, India, which has strongly influenced her practice and teaching and reaffirmed her belief in the Iyengar method. As a former dancer, fitness enthusiast and media professional Margaret has tried and tested many forms of exercise and believes Yoga to be the most complete, promoting both inner and outer body health.
